Santas Ratniece’s string quartet Alveoles was chosen for this year’s World Music Days festival program organized by the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) in Sydney. The sophisticated microsonoric quartet composed in 2005, in which the composer depicts various colors and shades of honey, has witnessed many a string quartet interpretation, including the performance by the world famous Arditti quartet. In Sydney, this work will gain an additional depiction by the Australian Goldner String Quartet. Santa Ratniece represents Latvia for the second time in this prestigious festival – her choral work Saline performed by the Latvian Radio Choir in 2008 was heard in Vilnius.

Latvian music is brilliant and interesting. It is enriched with many gems, which, society as a whole, is absolutely unaware of. The aim of this festival is to make Latvian music accessible and understandable to as broad an audience as possible, particularly the youth, by offering attractive and inter-active artistic and informative activities.
